I have to disagree with Mashable on this one. Not all marketing is created equally, even “free” marketing. When startups are promoting music what they are usually doing is using that music to promote themselves. Too often the customers that are driven to that music aren’t the customers most likely to pay. It’s not that they are all pirates but every business has this problem. The quality of traffic is important. A thousand qualified leads is always better than ten thousand random ones.
