This just falls into the category of “will they really spend money on this?” The carriers have been spending a lot to deploy 3G networks. The only way to make that cost effective is to eventually migrate a lot of the users over to those networks which means off their current phones. Migration means new handset sales, new accessory sales and renewed long term contracts. Why would a carrier spend money to deploy a technology that will just keep people happy with their current phone? It’s not in their DNA.
