kids and cell phones

The chart below from a study of over 20,000 Massachusetts children and their self-reported phone ownership shows that 20% of third grade boys have cell phones, rising to almost 90% by the time you reach high school.
As a technologist, this doesn’t surprise me at all. As a non-parent, I am a little surprised that so many young children have cell phones.
  • Do your kids have phones?
  • What do they use them for and how do you monitor their usage, if at all?
